In a landmark collaboration supported by the Innovate UK Energy Catalyst Programme, SolarisKit Ltd (UK) and Strathmore University have inaugurated Kenya’s first Solar Thermal Training Hub of Excellence. This initiative aims to equip technicians with the skills necessary to accelerate the adoption of clean solar heating solutions across the country. Achieving this goal will help shift current dependence on electricity, gas, wood, and charcoal to meet heating needs, lowering energy costs and carbon emissions.
Empowering Kenya’s Renewable Energy Workforce
Launched at the Strathmore Energy Research Centre (SERC) in Nairobi, the hub is a response to the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions in Kenya. The facility offers comprehensive training on the installation and maintenance of solar hot water systems, focusing on SolarisKit’s innovative flat-packed solar thermal collectors. These solar collectors are designed for efficiency and ease of deployment, making them ideal for Kenya’s diverse climates and infrastructure challenges.
The training program has already certified 49 professionals, marking a significant step toward building a skilled workforce capable of supporting Kenya’s transition to renewable energy. Participants included engineers, technicians, and energy sector stakeholders, all committed to advancing solar thermal technology and the adoption of solar hot water systems in the region. Theirworld
SolarisKit launches of solar thermal training hub in Kenya in partnership with Strathmore University
Innovative Technology for Sustainable Development
SolarisKit’s solar thermal collectors represent a breakthrough in renewable energy technology. Our prismatic design solar collector is manufactured flat-packed and allows for efficient solar energy capture once assembled, providing a reliable source of hot water without the need for complex infrastructure. This innovation aligns with Kenya’s goals to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable development.
The training hub not only imparts technical knowledge but also emphasizes the broader impact of solar thermal energy on economic growth and environmental conservation. By fostering local expertise, the initiative supports job creation and empowers communities to take an active role in their energy futures.
A Model for Regional Expansion
The success of the Solar Thermal Training Hub of Excellence sets a precedent for similar initiatives across Africa. By combining cutting-edge technology with practical training, the partnership between SolarisKit and Strathmore University demonstrates a scalable model for promoting renewable energy adoption.
