We are thrilled to announce that SolarisKit was awarded the top spot in the Decentralized Energy Systems category at the 2024 Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Energy Innovation Competition. The award was presented during the RAK Energy Summit, an event attended by His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, a member of the UAE Supreme Council and the ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.
This competition is part of Ras Al Khaimah’s Energy Efficiency & Renewables Strategy 2040. It’s designed to draw in start-ups and small businesses from around the world that provide creative solutions in energy management, making industries more efficient, and decentralized energy systems. The three theme winners each received a cash prize of AED 100,000, help with business development, and chances for pilot projects in the UAE.
SolarisKit won with their standout technology – a one-of-a-kind, flat-packed solar thermal collector that’s easy to set up on flat roofs. This system turns sunlight into heat, offering a green way to get hot water for homes and businesses. It’s especially great for sunny regions like the UAE, as it prevents overheating and issues often experienced with hard and mineralised water. The SolarisKit solution is also uniquely suited for flat-roof buildings, common in the UAE.
After their victory, SolarisKit installed their first system at the Rixos Al Mairid Hotel in Ras Al Khaimah. This installation was measured to save approximately 10,000 kWh of electricity and cut carbon emissions by over 3,000 kg each year, exceeding expectations.
Dr. Faisal Ghani, founder and CEO of SolarisKit is delighted to win this global innovation competition and the recognition of the importance to decarbonise global heating demand to reach our net zero targets.
SolarisKit’s success in this competition highlights the growing need for sustainable energy solutions and the important role that small businesses can play in the move towards clean energy.
