The SolarisKit team is incredibly proud to have been featured on the BBC World Service show “People Fixing the World.” We were highlighted because of our new solar thermal tech that’s helping people in Rwanda and other regions in the global south. The feature focused on SolarisKit’s goal of providing low-cost, eco-friendly hot water in places where getting energy is tough and expensive.
Changing the Game in Solar Heating with Flat-Pack Design
SolarisKit came up with the first-ever flat-pack solar thermal collector, which you can put together yourself. Its special prismatic shape turns sunlight into heat efficiently. This makes it perfect for heating water in homes and businesses. Plus, because it’s light and comes in parts, it’s easy to move and set up, even in out-of-the-way spots.
Unlike regular solar water heaters that can be big and hard to install, SolarisKit’s version can be put together in about 20 minutes. You don’t need special tools for it. This makes it great for communities that don’t have a lot of resources or technical know-how.
Helping Rwanda: Cutting Down Charcoal Use
In Rwanda, SolarisKit installed five of its solar systems to tackle the high cost of heating water. These systems have managed to heat water above 60°C, offering a green alternative to usual methods.
Rwanda, especially in Kigali, uses about 60,000 sacks of charcoal every week just to heat water. This heavy use not only hurts the environment by causing deforestation but also hits families hard in the pocket. By giving a clean and cheaper option, SolarisKit helps cut down on charcoal use and its negative effects.
Aiming for Global Sustainability
The BBC spotlight underlines SolarisKit’s drive to fight energy problems and environmental issues with smart designs. By giving people easy-to-install solar heating solutions, SolarisKit aims to uplift life quality and promote sustainability in developing areas.
Our strategy fits with global moves to boost green energy use and lower carbon emissions. As SolarisKit grows its business, its tech could benefit communities worldwide, especially in places lacking traditional energy setups.
